What is order placement?
Order placement means submitting a buy or sell order for a security. The order states what you want to trade, at what price and in what quantity. On an exchange, buy and sell orders are matched automatically and continuously, but for unlisted shares it works differently.
Order placement in unlisted companies
Because unlisted shares lack a continuous market, trading happens by matching buyers and sellers. On Accumeo you place an indication of interest with an amount and any conditions, after which the platform tries to match you with a counterparty. Once a buyer and seller are matched, the deal is completed through a share transfer agreement.
Buy orders and sell orders
A buy order states that you want to acquire shares; a sell order that you want to dispose of them. In unlisted companies the order is usually not binding until a match has occurred and an agreement is signed, which differs from the immediate execution on an exchange.
