What is a share depository?
A share depository (or securities depository) is an account used to store and trade securities such as shares, mutual funds, and bonds. The account is set up with a bank or an online broker (for example, Avanza or Nordnet).
Share depositories and unlisted shares
When you invest in unlisted shares, for example on Accumeo, the ownership is usually registered directly in the company's share register. When a company later goes public, the shares are digitized via Euroclear and can then be transferred to your share depository to be traded publicly.
The difference between a share depository and a securities depository
There is no practical difference between a share depository and a securities depository — they are two different terms for the exact same thing.
