What is investor relations?
Investor relations, or IR, is a company's work to communicate with its owners, potential investors and the capital market. The aim is to give a fair picture of the company through financial reports, news and meetings, so the market can assess it correctly.
IR in unlisted companies
For listed companies, disclosure is heavily regulated. Unlisted companies have lower formal requirements, so access to information varies between companies. Many unlisted growth companies still run active IR to attract capital — for example via an investor page, newsletter or a company page on a platform like Accumeo.
Why IR matters to you
Good IR makes it easier to follow a company's progress and make well-founded decisions. When you invest in unlisted shares, it is worth examining how transparent the company is — regular, clear information is often a good sign, while poor disclosure makes your company analysis harder.
